Garden Grove City Council Retaliates Against Historic Main Street
Here we go again. Our mayor and members of City Council recently voted to continue shunning the Historic Main Street District by taking steps to Permanently Abolish the Parking and Main Street Commission. Our Garden Grove City Council recently voted 4 to 1 in favor of abolishing the Vehicle Parking District #2 which encompasses the Historic Downtown area.
Many communities North, South, East and West have embraced their Historic Districts and encouraged renovation of the original structures in their Historic Districts. Easy access for the public to visit and share in these quaint districts is a key factor in the planning, development and success of any Historic District. Aparently the Council Members of Garden Grove have a different opinion. Four of the five Council members who voted on this measure, and were were voted into office by the people of Garden Grove to provide for our citizens, have gone against popular opinion by taking steps to reduce public parking and access to the area.
In a letter submitted to the Garden Grove Journal by Peter Katz, Chair of the Parking and Main Street Commission, we get some insight on the proceedings and the people behing the votes.
